What You Need to Know About EV Charging

How much does it cost to charge an EV?

It depends on the charger type and network. AC charging typically costs €0.20–0.30/kWh, while DC fast charging runs €0.35–0.55/kWh. A full charge of a mid-range EV (60 kWh) costs roughly €12–33.

How long does charging take?

On a DC fast charger (50–150 kW), charging from 20% to 80% takes 25–40 minutes. AC charging (11–22 kW) takes 3–6 hours. Overnight home charging on a wallbox (7–11 kW) takes 6–10 hours.

What is the difference between AC and DC charging?

AC (alternating current) charges slower through the car's onboard charger — ideal overnight or while parked. DC (direct current) charges the battery directly and is much faster — great for road trips and highway stops.

Do I need my own charging cable?

For AC stations (Type 2), yes — most EVs include one. DC fast chargers (CCS, CHAdeMO) have the cable permanently attached to the station.
